Orientation to Municipal Officials/Slums/Communities in MMR on Crowd Sourcing Survey in Mumbai Metropolitan Region

Orientation Programme on Swachh MMR for Vasai-Virar, MCGM Officials was organized on 20nd April2016 and 3rd May 2016 in Mayors’ Halls AIILSG, Andheri. Ms. Madhura Palnitkar, PDO,CSSCexplained in detail the aim and objectives to explain the citizen’s perspective on cleanliness and sanitation in their city and concluded the orientation workshop stating that survey will be conducted in 8 Municipal Corporations in Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) i.e. Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai, Kalyan Dombivali, Bhiwandi, Ulhasnagar, Mira Bhayandar and Vasai Virar by CSSC.

Orientation about the survey and its utility in improving services in slum /communities was handled by Vaibhavi Sokte & Supriya Chavan, Project Assistants, CSSC.

Orientation to different stakeholders viz, Educational Institutions(Schools, Colleges, Universities) RAs, Hospitals, Municipal Offices and Ward Offices (AMCs/DMCs at Ward Level),Private Sector Organizations, Housing Societies, NGOs, CBOs, ALMs, SHGs/ Students Groups/Slum Communities was handled by CSSC Team.

Orientation Meeting on Swachh Bharat Abhiyan with the Senior Citizens group on 14th May 2016 in Shushrusha Hospital

CSR Project Orientation Meeting on Swachh Bharat Abhiyan with the senior citizens group was organized on 14th May 2016 in Shushrusha Hospital. Ms. Madhura Palnitkar, PDO, CSSC made a detail presentation on concept of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and Swachh Maharashtra Mission consisting of objective, mission and various stakeholders, IEC components, capacity building and people’s participation in order to make our Mumbai ODF. Aim and objective was to create awareness generation and promoting effective involvement in civic services in order to achieve ODF. Orientation Meeting concluded with a Road Map/ way forward.

Community Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) Training Programme for Community Organizers of Pune Municipal Corporation under City Sanitation Plans (CSP)

Awareness Training Programme on Community Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) was organised for 32 Community Organizers of Pune Municipal Corporation at Gadgil Prashalaya, Shanivar Peth, Pune from 10th-12th March 2016 under CSP with the objective to create awareness and promoting effective slum specific community-wide involvement in civic services at community level in order to achieve ODF. The relevant inputs, suggestions were incorporated in the report which was submitted to Pune Municipal Corporation. The project will be useful for Swachh Maharashtra Mission (SMM).

Preparation of NGO Directory in Maharashtra

Preparation of NGO Directory linkage to Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in Maharashtra is in progress. The objective is to list NGOs/CBOs/ALMs/RAs mainly working on water supply, sanitation, slums and waste management in Maharashtra.

WIN-ISHA Project

Construction of Community Toilet Block- Move Towards ODF area in Mankhurd was inaugurated on 2nd October 2016 at the hands of MLA, Anushakti Nagar, Mumbai Mr. Tukaram Kate & Dr(Prof) Sneha Palnitkar, Trustee, CSSC. A toilet block consisting 20 toilet seats was constructed by Centre for the Study of Social Change(CSSC)for residents of Mankhurd’s Maharashtra Nagar locality. This was the first example of public-private partnership giving shape to a toilet block for the local community consisting of 1000 persons, mostly from Sindhudurg District in Maharashtra. The project was completed in active cooperation of M/E Ward of Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM). After completion of project toilet block was handed over to MCGM. CSSC organised training session for community to maintain toilet block. Monthly visits were paid by Social Development Cell to observe its O&M and certain water & electricity problems were referred to MCGM. The toilet blocks are maintained by community by monthly contribution.

Awareness Workshops for Children in collaboration with Safecity

Social Development Cell, CSSC organised awareness and orientation workshop on 18th December 2016on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) . Total 50 children participated in this workshop. The Concept of POCSO, ‘No-GO-Tell’ was explained in detail by the Safecity Team. A short 10 minute animated film based on a young girl Komal was screened to the children. The awareness workshop concluded by making children aware of the helpline contact numbers for children and made them memorize the numbers just in case they needed help if they weren’t comfortable sharing the details with someone they knew.

Social Development Cell, CSSC organised Diabetes Camp in collaboration with Rotary Club of Mumbai Coastline

Diabetes Camp was organised for Teen Bangla Rahivasi Sangh on 27th March 2017 which included Diabetes screening and General Check-Up. Total 182 patients were examined during the camp and out of which 29 were detected with diabetes for the very first time.
